Karisma, Abhishek had a fiery relationship: Suneel Darshan
India, July 30 -- Filmmaker Suneel Darshan recently opened up about actors Karisma Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan's broken engagement in 2003, revealing he was left puzzled by Karisma's sudden decision to marry industrialist (late) Sunjay Kapur.
Speaking to Hindi Rush, he said Karisma and Abhishek had decided to marry by the time their first film together, Haan Maine Bhi Pyaar Kiya (2002), produced by Darshan himself, went on floors. "They were an attractive pair, (actor) Amitabh Bachchan's son and (late actor) Raj Kapoor's granddaughter."
He added, "Coincidentally, I was at Karisma's house when the engagement was called off. I don't think anyone can fully analyse the emotional turmoil that followed. Then she went to Bangkok for New Year's, and suddenly I heard she was going to marry Sunjay. I never understood that decision."
On the split, Darshan said: "People blame Babita ji (Karisma's mother), Jaya ji (Abhishek's mother), Karisma or Abhishek, but I think these things should be left to destiny. They had a fiery relationship. There were a lot of disagreements between them."
Karisma and Abhishek got engaged in 2002 but called it off in 2003. She later married Sunjay the same year, while Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan tied the knot in 2007.
