Instagram logo makeover gets mixed reactions online
India, Aug. 15 -- Meta gave Instagram's text logo a fresh update on Thursday, but the internet isn't entirely sold on it. Unveiling the new look on Instagram and Threads, app head Adam Mosseri described the redesigned wordmark as "sharper and more modern" while maintaining simplicity and paying homage to the original script.
While the familiar cursive style remains intact, the redrawn letterforms mark the platform's first major design refresh since 2016, when it famously swapped its vintage brown camera logo for the iconic pink gradient icon.
As soon as the update was announced, social media users were quick to point out that the tweaked font makes the platform's name hard to decipher. The newly stylised "r" has left many seeing a "z" or a "u".
Naturally, the comment section under Mosseri's post fast turned into a roast. "Is it just me or does it read: instagzam," questioned one user, while another teased, "Instagwam - how a toddler would pronounce it." Not everyone found the humour in it, though, with one frustrated user calling out the visual tweak: "It's barely readable. Does it even pass accessibility checks? Booo. I but do not like."...
