India, Sept. 19 -- For Star Wars fans, George Lucas is the man behind a galaxy far, far away. Now, the filmmaker is putting his other lifelong obsession, collecting art, on display. The $1-billion (approx Rs.9,000 crore) Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, founded by Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson, will open to the public in Los Angeles on September 22, after more than a decade of planning and delays. Designed by Chinese architect Ma Yansong of MAD Architects, the futuristic, 300,000-square-foot building sits amid a sprawling landscaped campus and houses 100,000 square feet of galleries, two theatres, a research library, restaurants and retail spaces. The opening exhibitions bring together more than 1,300 works tracing visual storytelling across centuries, from paintings and comics to manga, children's illustrations and cinema. Works by artists Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Norman Rockwell sit alongside material from Lucas's own film archives. Also, the dedicated Star Wars in Motion exhibition includes props, costumes, concept art and vehicles from the first six films, including Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder and General Grievous' Wheel Bike.
