India, Sept. 19 -- S et to play late legendary Carnatic vocalist MS Subbulakshmi in an upcoming biopic, Rashmika Mandanna is no stranger to crossing linguistic and cultural boundaries on screen. The actor, last seen in Cocktail 2, has built a career across Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Hindi cinema, something she says was never part of a calculated pan-India plan. She says, "I am a Kodava (Coorg, Karnataka) and speak Kodava Takk, but we don't have an industry for my mother tongue. So language has never been a barrier in my career. I treat all languages as my own. My fans, whom I call my family first, suggested, 'Why don't you do a Telugu film?' It was the same with Hindi, and that's how my trajectory grew." But with that reach has also come trolling, particularly over her accent in Hindi films. She faced online comments over her dialogue delivery in Animal (2023) and Chhaava (2025), while her lines in Mission Majnu (2023) were dubbed by another artiste for the required Urdu diction. Does the trolling bother her? "Of course I'm not necessarily good at any language; I'm a jack of all trades and master of none," she says with a laugh, adding, "As long as I can respond to questions posed in a particular language, it's okay; that's how I respect my audiences from different parts of the world." Mandanna further says, "I believe the best of us are there to create something magical with every film, and the end product is a compilation of all these energies coming together. I concentrate on delivering my best performance as an actor. Other things are not relevant."...
