I love slow-burn romances: Jisoo
India, March 6 -- Global K-pop superstar and BLACKPINK member Jisoo is all set to appear in the South Korean romantic-comedy series, Boyfriend on Demand, premiering today on Netflix. In her first-ever interview with an Indian publication, she opens up on taking new challenges beyond her comfort zone and who she is when the spotlight turns off.
"I feel like many women often find themselves being stuck in a particular role or mindset; you box and limit yourself and your abilities. This is something that one should never do... When you are taking on a new challenge, don't be afraid. Try to break out of your shell and take it head-on," she says.
The 31-year-old, known for her chart-topping numbers like Flower and Eyes Closed (a collab with singer Zayn Malik), made her acting debut in the series Snowdrop (2021). Speaking about her first-ever rom-com, she shares, "I hope that seeing me in this show will give you the confidence to step out of your comfort zone, allow yourself to grow from it, and enjoy the process."
In the series, Jisoo, who plays the character Mi Rae, an overworked webtoon producer, navigates a virtual dating simulation service to experience the dates of her dreams. "I was intrigued by the script and how it brings the virtual and the real world together. I also loved the story arc of my character's growth. There are many things in this series that people can relate to and that really drew me in," she shares. The show also stars Seo In Guk and features several cameos by popular stars like Jay Park, Lee Jae Wook, Lee Soo Hyun, and Seo Kang Joon.
While the series explores love in a tech-driven world, Jisoo prefers a more lingering, old-school approach to romance. "I love slow-burn romances. I feel like taking the time to know more about the other person helps create a stronger bond," she adds.
As a global pop sensation, how does Jisoo stay grounded amidst the unrelenting spotlight? "I am obviously in the public eye, and in places that are very extravagant and fancy. But honestly, when I'm at home, I'm not much different from my character (in the show). I love the time I spend at home so much that I want to savour it as much as possible," she signs off....
