How to style a dupatta for a festive diva look
India, Nov. 8 -- Fat strap: Still haven't decided what to wear for Diwali? Give that old stole or dupatta in your wardrobe a festive makeover. This easy styling hack by creator Simran Salujaa turns a simple piece of fabric into a chic, makeshift top with just a couple of safety pins. Pair it with a lehenga, sharara pants or even a pair of wide-leg trousers for a dressed-up look.
How to create the top
1. Drape it across your bust: Take a long stole or scarf and wrap it across your chest, adjusting the fabric to get the coverage and neckline you want. Bring the two ends together on one side.
2. Secure the first knot: Gather the two ends neatly and fasten them with a sturdy safety pin or saree pin. Make sure the fabric sits snugly without feeling too tight.
3. Secure it under the arm: Check for any gaps or loose fabric around the opposite side. Pin the open section under your arm to hold the drape in place and prevent it from slipping.
4. Complete the festive look: Pair your makeshift top with a lehenga skirt, dhoti pants or tailored trousers. Add statement earrings, bangles and a dressy potli bag to give the look a festive finish.
Style tip: Choose a stole with a rich border, embroidery, sequins or a striking print to make the makeshift top look more like a thoughtfully styled festive outfit. Do a quick movement test before stepping out to ensure the pins are secure and the drape stays in place....
