India, Aug. 13 -- Patang party in Purani Dilli Revisit the nostalgia of childhood spending I-Day evening flying kites in the heart of Purani Dilli. The Patang Aur Pech Festival 2026 will have attendees on a rooftop overlooking Jama Masjid for an evening of kite flying, a live pech competition, food, music and games. Participants can also catch the city fireworks at 6:30 pm from the rooftop. Abu Sufiyan from Tales of City shares, "Every guest gets kites, dor and a charkhi, with ustads on hand to teach you how to fly. We are inviting everyone to come out in their best ethnic attire. It will not just be about flying kites. Historian and author Rana Safvi will also join us to speak about how kites and freedom became tied together in this city." Another kite-flying event, Azaadi Ki Patangbaazi, will have Fouzia Dastango, India's first female Dastango and an Old Delhi resident, tell stories, while Sana Begum, host and chef of Dastarkhwane Sana Begum, will welcome participants into her home and terrace and prepare special food. Ramit Mitra from DelhiByFoot shares, "In Old Delhi, Independence Day is a festival of its own. What we really want to do is open up this very intimate family-and-friends Old Delhi festivities experience to people who have never experienced it before. Through storytelling, we will help attendees explore the long-standing royal tradition of kite flying and its immediate connections in Delhi to Independence Day, the symbolism of the kite and freedom, and the unique way in which Old Delhi has celebrated August 15 since 1947." 500 bikers ride in a tribute to brotherhood As a tribute to India's independence, brotherhood and unity, close to 500 motorcyclists will meet a day after Independence Day, on Sunday, at Vikram Batra Chowk in Delhi and set off on a 50-km ride to Murthal, Haryana. Once there, a venue will be booked where patriotic songs will be played, food will be served and the community will come together over a shared patriotic spirit. Bharat Chauhan, founder of KAFIRA RIDERZ BIKERS COMMUNITY and organiser of the Tiranga Trail Ride 3.0, shares, "Setting off on bike rides together as a community is all about brotherhood and unity, and that is what Independence Day means to us. It is our way of paying tribute to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and the brotherhood among all the freedom fighters who helped us get independence. Already 500 people have registered, and we expect many more to join." 80 years, 80 km on two wheels It has been 80 years since India gained independence, so what better way to celebrate than riding 80 km on bicycles as an ode to the milestone? The Freedom 80 Ride will have cyclists start from the Commonwealth Games Village at 5:30 am and ride 80 km to Bel Chowk in Greater Noida. "This is more than an 80-km ride. It is a tribute to resilience, discipline, fitness and the freedom that inspires us to keep moving forward. Freedom wasn't gifted to us but was earned through courage, sacrifice and unity. So, we want to celebrate that spirit the way cyclists know best: by riding together," says Kamal Bisht, founder of TheCycleClubIndia. He adds, "If one is not in Delhi, they can still be a part of the celebration.
