Godrej Properties brings nature back to the neighbourhood with new green platform
India, April 17 -- As Indian cities expand rapidly, the need to restore balance between urban development and nature has never been more urgent. With this in mind, Godrej Properties has launched Neighbours with Nature, an initiative focused on hyperlocal ecological restoration and community well-being.
The platform brings together the company's sustainability efforts under a unified vision, one that aims to make environmental impact visible at the community level. The idea is simple yet significant: to integrate nature into everyday urban life, where green spaces, cleaner air, and biodiversity are not luxuries but essentials.
Godrej Properties has partnered with I Am Gurgaon for the maintenance of the Chakkarpur Wazirabadh Bundh, as a part of their Neighbours with Nature initiative. The attempt is to ensure that they add to the community, not just within but beyond the walls of their projects. The 5.2-kilometre stretch today includes native plantations, pedestrian and cycling pathways, solar-powered lighting, and systems that aid rainwater recharge and groundwater health.
The 'Neighbours with Nature' initiative was unveiled at Godrej Miraya, Godrej Properties' luxury residential project on Golf Course Road. Located just a short walk from the Chakkarpur-Wazirabad Bundh, the project reflects GPL's vision of creating impact not only for its residents but also for the larger community beyond its boundaries. Godrej Miraya has achieved IGBC Net Zero Waste Platinum Certification, demonstrating Godrej Properties commitment to environmental sustainability and resource efficiency.
Geetika Trehan, CEO - North Zone, Godrej Properties, said, "In cities like ours, people's quality of life is shaped as much by the environment around their homes as the homes themselves. Clean air, shaded walks, and accessible green spaces deeply influence well-being. Our purpose of creating everyday joy means investing in these neighbourhood ecosystems, helping people feel healthier, more connected, and more supported by the places they live in."
The project reflects a broader shift in urban thinking - moving from isolated green features to integrated ecosystems. It also builds on the company's existing environmental efforts, including diverting over 96,000 tonnes of waste from landfills, enabling more than 17 million litres of water recharge, and planting over 4 lakh trees in the past five years.
Actor Dia Mirza Rekhi, who joined the initiative, highlighted the importance of restoring ecological assets within cities. She said, "Urbanisation has distanced people from nature, and initiatives like this help re-establish that connection." For her, the definition of luxury is evolving, shifting from excess to a more mindful balance with the environment. Lalit Makhijani, CMO & CCO, Godrej Properties, said, "People connect most with places when they feel calmer, healthier, and more rooted in their surroundings.
This initiative lets sustainability show up in everyday life, in the shade you walk under, the nature you experience, and the habits a neighbourhood enables. For us, responsible luxury is about designing environments that make wellbeing effortless and bring people closer to the ecosystems around them."
At its core, Neighbours with Nature is about reimagining urban living - prioritising greener public spaces, biodiversity, and community-led stewardship to create neighbourhoods that are not only liveable, but also resilient. HTC...
