India, Sept. 17 -- If you need a little financial push to finally finish that book on your nightstand, Singapore is offering a fun hack. The country's National Library Board (NLB) has launched ReadSG, a nationwide movement to encourage people to swap some scrolling time for reading. The mission is simple: read for just 15 minutes a day and get rewarded for it, whether that's on the morning train, during a coffee break or before hitting the sack. It's all gamified through CrowdTaskSG, a government crowdsourcing platform. Readers need to log in for a minimum 15-minute session each day to earn 20 virtual coins per session. Once they hit 1,000 coins, they can redeem S$1 (around Rs.75). At that rate, it takes 50 days of consistent reading to reach the first dollar. Beyond the pocket change, readers can earn XP (experience points), climb leaderboards, unlock limited-edition library charms and enter lucky draws for e-readers. While it won't make anyone rich, the idea is to promote reading culture and reduce doomscrolling.
