Film body seeks FIR against SLB, cites previous deaths on his sets
India, June 25 -- On Wednesday, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta demanded strict action against filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali over the death of carpenter Chandradhari Singh Yadav on the sets of his upcoming film Love & War. While Bhansali's production house announced compensation of Rs.40 lakh to the deceased's family, AICWA is seeking Rs.1 crore in compensation, an FIR and a high-level investigation.
In an open letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Gupta wrote on X, "Despite the film being a large-scale production featuring prominent actors such as Ranbir Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, and Alia Bhatt, mandatory safety norms were not followed on the set... Had the required safety measures been strictly implemented and enforced, this tragic incident could possibly have been avoided."
Gupta also cited other alleged accidents from Bhansali's sets, including Devdas (2002), where two workers died and another sustained serious injuries, and Padmaavat (2018), where one worker died: "It is also reported that workers are often required to work under highly demanding conditions with extended shifts ranging from 16 to 20 hours a day. Such prolonged working hours, combined with inadequate safety supervision and weak enforcement of safety norms, significantly increase the risk of accidents and fatal incidents." htc...
