FIFA World Cup tickets for Rs.5,000? NYC Mayor says yes
India, May 24 -- New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani recently announced that its residents will get a rare chance to buy affordable 2026 FIFA World Cup tickets along with free round-trip bus transport.
The announcement was made after securing a deal with FIFA president Gianni Infantino for 1,000 tickets priced at just $50 (approx Rs.5,000). The tickets will only be valid for matches at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey.
The tickets will remain non-transferable to prevent resale and scalping. The move comes as World Cup tickets resale prices continue to surge in the US, with average tickets crossing $550 (approx Rs.53,000), while the cheapest ticket for the July 19 final is reportedly selling for over $7,700 (approx Rs.7 lakh).
Meanwhile, football fans in India face a different uncertainty. With less than three weeks to go before the FIFA World Cup 2026 begins on June 12 (IST), there is still no clarity on where the tournament will be broadcast in the country.htc...
