India, Aug. 30 -- A cardiac care team at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Vaishali, led by Dr Gaurav Minocha, Principal Director and Head of Interventional Cardiology, along with Dr Heemanshu Lodhi and Dr Vikas Gupta, has successfully implanted the AVEIR (TM) DR, the world's first dual-chamber leadless pacemaker, in a patient with a complex heart rhythm condition. The procedure marks an important advancement in cardiac care in Delhi NCR, particularly for patients who may not be suitable for conventional pacemakers. "We performed this procedure in a patient who was not a suitable candidate for a conventional pacemaker. The dual-chamber capability allows us to offer leadless pacing to a much wider range of patients, while avoiding the limitations associated with wires and a chest implant," said Dr Gaurav Minocha. Unlike traditional pacemakers, which are placed under the chest skin and connected to the heart through leads, AVEIR (TM) DR is designed to coordinate pacing in both chambers without a chest incision or connecting wires. The tiny device is delivered directly into the heart through a small tube inserted through a vein in the leg. This eliminates a chest wound and visible scar while avoiding complications associated with traditional pacing leads, such as infection, lead damage and blood-vessel blockage. The technology may benefit patients with difficult venous access, previous pacemaker-related infections, certain rhythm disorders requiring coordinated pacing, or those unsuitable for conventional implantation because of age, medical conditions or blood-thinning medication. Most patients may return home within one to two days, depending on their condition. The device is also MRI-compatible, offering an added advantage for patients who may require future imaging. Frequent dizziness, unusual fatigue, fainting or an unusually slow heartbeat may signal a heart rhythm problem. Such symptoms should not be ignored and should be evaluated by a cardiologist. htc...
