India, Nov. 5 -- The fairy lights are up, the playlist is ready and the card table is set. But who's cooking for 25 guests? For Delhi-NCR's Diwali hosts, professional caterers are taking the pressure off entertaining, bringing everything from fusion appetisers and live cooking counters to cocktail bars into their homes. And the biggest perk? Getting to enjoy your own party for a change! "It is the complete convenience that catering food offers," says Delhi-based makeup artist Aarushi Batra, who is hosting a weekend bash. She shares, "I don't want to feel stressed about what to serve, how I'll manage cooking for 20 to 25 people, or where I'll store all the food beforehand. Getting it catered makes it so much more fun for us because we get to be part of the party instead of worrying about serving." Imagine having chefs take over your kitchen while you catch up with friends over drinks. No last-minute chopping, no running between the living room and the stove, and certainly no worrying about who's serving the starters. It's a busy season for those making this possible, too. "In the last three years, this Diwali season is the busiest I have been. We have close to 25 parties that we need to cater at from now till November 9th, with three bookings per day on weekends," says Muskan Abbot of Maistella by Muskan, whose clientele includes comedians Anubhav Bassi and Rahul Dua, and content creator Kusha Kapila. And forget being stuck with a standard buffet. From avocado papdi and baked vada pav to wood-fired pizzas, hosts can have menus tailored to their tastes, with packages priced between Rs.2,500 and Rs.3,500 per person. Who says festive food has to stick to the usual suspects? How about Korean buns with an achari twist or choux pastries stuffed with kachori filling? "We do concept catering," says Divyansha Dhawan of The Inclusive Palate, which offers bite-sized festive menus that guests can graze on through the evening, with prices starting at Rs.1,500 per person. But here's the other thing: the food has to look as good as it tastes. "With in-person catering, we step in to style the entire table. We do full tablescaping using elevated platters, visual height, and decor pieces tailored around the theme," she adds. And why stop at the food? From customised festive spreads to cocktail counters, hosts can now leave the entire party menu to the professionals. "Drinks and the bar are just as much a part of the party as the food," says Chetan Sethi of South Delhi-based Taste Affair, which offers complete catering services, including food, mixology and bar setups, with food packages pricing at around Rs.1,500 per person. But that doesn't mean hosts have to settle for a fixed spread. "We do not offer hosts a fixed menu. We customise the entire menu, both food and drinks, as per their needs and preferences so they can also enjoy the planning and brainstorming parts of hosting a great party," he says....
