India, May 9 -- W orld Migratory Bird Day, celebrated globally today to highlight the protection of migratory birds and their habitats, has brought added excitement for Delhi-NCR's birdwatchers. Come June, during the annual Van Mahotsav celebrations, the Delhi Government will release the city's first-ever Bird Atlas, documenting Delhi's rich bird diversity and mapping species across different habitats in the Capital. With guided bird watching walks, summer sightings and growing interest in urban birding already putting the spotlight on the city's avian life, the timing feels apt. "The first Bird Atlas will encourage more people to take an interest in bird watching because it helps them see birds as part of their own surroundings, not just as something meant for experts to keep a record of," says Pankaj Gupta from Delhi Bird Atlas. Despite soaring temperatures, Delhi's biodiversity parks continue to attract birdwatchers. "This is when most birds are in their breeding season and look their very best," Gupta adds.
