Delhi fire incidents spike extinguisher sales, safety queries
India, June 6 -- A series of recent fire incidents across Delhi-NCR, including the fatal blaze at a bed-and-breakfast in Malviya Nagar, a hotel fire in Humayunpur, and the evacuation of a high-rise residential tower in Noida after a fire, has prompted residents to seek greater clarity on fire safety measures in their housing societies. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) say they have seen a rise in queries from residents, while suppliers report increased demand for fire extinguishers and other safety equipment.
"Since the Malviya Nagar incident, several residents have reached out at our RWA office to ask about the fire safety measures in place," says a member of the RWA at Gitanjali Apartments in east Delhi, adding, "Our building already has the required equipment, but we have called a service inspector this week to check all extinguishers and ensure these are functioning properly."
Kishore, a resident of Orchid Metropolis Apartments in Hauz Khas, says, "After a fire safety inspector visited our building yesterday, we requested the RWA to install additional fire extinguishers."
Fire safety vendors say the concern is translating into increased orders.
Ravi Taneja from Firex Safety Solutions tells us, "Given the recent tragedies, we feel it is our responsibility as professionals in the fire safety industry to help raise awareness and improve preparedness. Encouragingly, many societies have been receptive and are placing orders after understanding the importance of these measures."...
