City embraces Van Mahotsav with a green spirit
India, July 3 -- With monsoon comes the annual forest festival, Van Mahotsav, which has become the Capital's latest green lifestyle trend. Observed in the first week of July, this year the 'festival of trees' is getting a new boost with the recent launch of Delhi Government's Green Drive Portal under the campaign, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, which aims towards plantation of 70 lakh saplings across the city.
With the festival underway, eco-conscious individuals and communities have geared up to participate. "To ensure plantation isn't just a one-time thing, my friends and I have decided that two of our monthly hangouts must be at tree plantation drives," shares Tanya Kumar, a Delhi University student.
"Van Mahotsav truly transforms our initiative into a vibrant social activity," says Rajeev Kumar from Think Good Foundation, adding, "We supply all the materials and the volunteers jump right into planting, watering, and composting at our eco drives."
The commitment, however, doesn't end with planting a sapling. Dhirender Sharma from Delhi Greens shares, "People think once a sapling is planted it will go neglected, so they wonder what is the point. But, our team regularly follows up by watering, stem cutting etc to maintain every tree."...
