Chicken stock in dal makhani? Social media up in arms
India, May 27 -- MasterChef Australia judge George Calombaris has found himself at the centre of an online food fight after sharing his 'version' of dal makhani on Instagram.
Despite Calombaris repeatedly clarifying that the recipe was "not authentic" in his May 24 post, Indian food lovers are not happy. The biggest flashpoint? Chicken stock. Calombaris used stock cubes, different lentils, and a quick 20-minute method for the dish. This is a sharp departure from the slow-cooked Punjabi staple traditionally made with whole urad dal, rajma, butter and cream.
Within hours, the Reel clocked 205K views and nearly 4,300 comments, turning it into a virtual kitchen war. "Wrong!!" wrote one user, while another commented, "This has 0 percent similarity to actual dal makhani."
However, a section of commenters defended the chef's freedom to experiment with the original food, calling the recipe "creative" and "budget-friendly".htc...
