BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary event sparks backlash as only 40 fans invited
India, Aug. 8 -- Fans are aghast at K-pop girl group BLACKPINK's 10th anniversary meet-and-greet being held in Seoul today. The announcement made on August 6 fuelled frustration over what fans called limited access, small scale, and restrictive eligibility rules.
The plan was announced through fan app Weverse, sharing that only 40 fans would be invited, with a few of the four band members Jisoo, Jennie, Rose, and Lisa attending, depending on their schedules.
Another major point of contention involved eligibility. Only fans who had purchased a Weverse membership by July 31 could apply. Fans questioned why applications were accepted only through Weverse, a platform where the members have had little activity over the past year.
Comments included, "Do they think fans are unemployed?", "Even 400 people wouldn't be enough, and they're only inviting 40?", "This is worse than not holding an event at all," and "It feels like a token gesture."
In response, the band's agency clarified on Friday that all four members will be in attendance.htc...
