Bipasha Basu says she 'started the trend' of muscular women in Bollywood
India, Sept. 9 -- Earlier this year, an old video of actor Mrunal Thakur seemingly mocking actor Bipasha Basu's muscular physique went viral, sparking a debate about women's health and fitness. The clip drew criticism online, and now Bipasha has opened up about being among the first female stars to embrace a muscular, athletic physique.
Speaking to Elle India, Bipasha, who is set to make her acting comeback soon, recalled that in the early 2000s, female actors were expected to be petite, fair and delicate. However, she stood out with her tall, athletic build and tanned complexion. "I don't think women with more muscle tone were very acceptable as actresses. But I think I started the trend, and I started preaching 'love yourself' to everyone because I realised it's not just about looking good. It's more intrinsic. You need to be healthy," she said.
The 47-year-old believes her fitness journey encouraged many women to exercise and understand its benefits.
Bipasha also opened up about the pressure women face to look younger as they age. "Ageing is like the biggest sin that you can commit," she said, adding that she likes herself more today than she did in her twenties. "I'm never going to fall into the pressure of wanting to look younger than what I am. I'm very happy with the way I am growing older, and I'm very proud of my age," she added.htc...
