Beyond the moonrise: Karwa Chauth 2.0
India, Oct. 5 -- A
dinner under the stars, a chef cooking just for two, or a surprise weekend getaway - this Karwa Chauth (October 10), men are going beyond the traditional moonrise rituals. The trend to create memorable, personalised experiences for their wives on Karwa Chauth is catching on. Once seen as a strictly traditional festival, the day has now become an occasion to weave in modern romance and thoughtful gestures.
While fasting, devotion, and waiting for the moonrise remain the heart of Karwa Chauth, the celebrations around it have evolved. "We've seen a sharp rise in men booking private setups for their wives, not just for anniversaries or proposals but especially for Karwa Chauth," says Madhu Sudan Thakur, co-founder of the event management company Loviesta, which curates everything from terrace makeovers at home to cabana-style dinners at premium hotels. He adds, "Couples now want the best of both worlds: the thalis, the puja essentials, and the rituals - followed by a candlelit meal or a poolside dinner."
For Delhi-based Akshat Khanna, who was surprised by his wife on their anniversary, Karwa Chauth is the perfect occasion to return the gesture. "It was absolutely magical," he recalls. "I was having a dull day at work and had no idea what she was planning. To come home to something so thoughtful and personal left me speechless. Now it's my turn-I'm planning to make the day extra special through CherishX." CherishX offers curated experiences like dinners under the stars, candlelit cabanas, and cosy movie nights.
Not every couple wants grandeur - some prefer quiet, cosy gestures. That's where services like COOX step in. The platform lets you hire a private chef who arrives at your home, prepares a customised menu, and even cleans up after.
"Nothing better than hot, fresh food to impress your wife and show you care after she fasts the whole day," says Arpita Singh, a representative.
Staycations, too, are on the rise. Planners like TogetherV and Just4You offer boutique getaways in and around metro cities with decorated rooms, spa add-ons, and candlelit dinners. The idea: create a "no-work, no-chore zone" where couples can step out of routine, even if only for a night, and celebrate their bond.
With 100-150 customers every Karwa Chauth, the Just4You team says couples are increasingly seeking thoughtful, tailor-made celebrations. From decor and welcome drinks to a three-course meal and background music, the planners curate every detail.
The festival is an opportunity to blend devotion with romance. "Such gestures make the day worth remembering," says Ayushi Goyal, who is planning a candlelight dinner by the pool....
