Ban FWICE, not Ranveer:RGV's two cents on Don 3 row
India, May 31 -- Actor Ranveer Singh's reported exit from filmmakers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's Don 3 weeks before filming now has more industry insiders picking sides. After the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) issued a Non-Cooperation Directive against Ranveer and Cine and TV Artistes' Association (CINTAA) chief Poonam Dhillon criticised it, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has stepped in to offer what he called his "unsolicited advice", saying, "Let's not poke our unwanted noses into a civil dispute between two parties."
In a lengthy post on X, the 64-year-old wrote, "The so-called 'ban' will eventually become a big fat joke on FWICE... This isn't industry or worker protection. It is just a performative muscle flexing by an extremely outdated union system desperately trying to hold on to their grip."
RGV further wrote that FWICE is "neither a court of legal justice nor a government-authorised regulatory body" but "a kangaroo court": "The verdict is often decided in advance by a group of a specific agenda-oriented people meeting privately, including actors who are scared sh*tless with the mega success of Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar."
The filmmaker also opined that FWICE's intervention was not required, since it's a civil matter between two parties, wherein a producer's loss shouldn't be equated with the lakhs of workers associated with the film body.
"Because the brutal truth is, stars like Ranveer Singh sell tickets at the theatres... (and) create employment for lakhs of FWICE workers and not FWICE. It's only because stars like Ranveer Singh exist that the industry exists, and also the FWICE exists," he concluded.
