India, May 29 -- A ctor Anushka Sharma caught attention during the IPL 2026 match in Dharamshala on Tuesday for a gadget spotted on her finger. The accessory was identified as a digital tally ring, commonly known as a japa or prayer counter ring. A modern version of the traditional japa mala, the ring allows users to count chants digitally with a click button and a tiny built-in screen, without carrying prayer beads. Some versions can reportedly track up to 99,999 recitations. Traditionally, a japa mala is usually stored respectfully in a clean cloth bag or on a home altar when not in use. The digital ring offers a more portable, tech-friendly alternative. The rings are widely available online, with prices starting at around Rs.150, though they are also commonly sold in spiritual hubs like Vrindavan and Govardhan for as little as Rs.10-15.
