India, April 16 -- A Paris-based sales engineer has won a nearly $1 million (approx. Rs.9.33 crore) painting by legendary Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. The win came through a €100 (approx. Rs.11,000) raffle ticket purchased for a draw held at Christie's in Paris on Tuesday. The winner, 58-year-old Ari Hodara, said he initially questioned the call informing him of his win, asking organisers how he could be sure it wasn't a hoax. The prize-winning artwork, Head of a Woman, is a 1941 gouache-on-paper portrait of Dora Maar, Picasso's muse and partner. The work reflects a significant phase in the artist's career. The draw was part of the third edition of the '1 Picasso for 100 euros' lottery to raise funds for Alzheimer's research. A total of 120,000 tickets were sold globally, raising €12 million (approx. Rs.132 crore) to support medical research. HTC...
