AI and climate: A book launch on the twin 'storms'
India, Feb. 26 -- Can artificial intelligence help save the planet without costing it more? That question framed the launch of Smarter Than the Storm: : Championing the AI-Climate Nexus for a Truly Sustainable Future, co-authored by Amitabh Kant and Siddharth Sinha, in the Capital on Tuesday.
The event drew policymakers, diplomats and industry leaders, positioning the book at the intersection of climate urgency and AI's rapid rise in a panel discussion.
The book explores a central paradox: while AI can aid disaster prediction, optimise energy use and strengthen infrastructure, it also carries an environmental cost through high energy demand and water use.
During the event, Sinha spoke about how AI is already reshaping everything from disaster prediction to energy access and public infrastructure. But he also stressed that the future of AI must be built on climate-conscious systems, from greener data centres to open, inclusive platforms that serve wider communities.
Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Bhupender Yadav, who formally launched the book, said, "Just as there can be no artificial intelligence without human intelligence, there can be no human future without the future of the planet," adding that the only way forward is to ensure that human experience remains at the centre of technological progress."AI must serve humanity and the planet, not the other way around," he concluded....
