India, Aug. 5 -- A century after the birth of Padma Vibhushan Satish Gujral, his life and legacy were honoured with a commemorative postage stamp at Bikaner House on Monday. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M Scindia unveiled the stamp in the presence of Gujral's family and members of the Capital's cultural community. His daughter Raseel Gujral Ansal said, "There are moments that belong not just to a family, but to the cultural memory of a nation. Today is one such moment for us." Scindia also recalled his personal association with Gujral, describing him as an artist who transcended conventional definitions of the form: "He was more than an artist. He represented, in many ways, the capability of India. His capability to transform inanimate surfaces into living forms, whether canvas, stone, brick or empty spaces like this, was something very few artists in the world possessed." The commemorative stamp features Gujaral's self-portrait from 2010, one of only four self-portraits of his career. The evening also saw the unveiling of limited-edition centenary stamp collectibles by Raseel Gujral Art Legacy, including editions featuring 25 and 100 stamps.
