A silver jubilee celebrationof Delhi's art, dance and drama
India, Oct. 10 -- The 25th LalitArpan Festival opened at India Habitat Centre on Thursday with an evening celebrating Delhi's cultural heritage.
The highlight was Yudhishthir and Draupadi, a 40-minute dance-theatre production featuring Kathak maestro and festival founder Padma Shri Shovana Narayan alongside theatre artiste Sunit Tandon. Based on the epic poem by author-diplomat Pavan K Varma, the performance returned to the stage after nearly a decade.
"We first performed this piece in 1997 and continued till 2016. While planning the programme, someone remarked, 'Arey, bohot din se nahin kiya hai'. That prompted us to revive it in 2026," said Narayan.
Reflecting on the festival's silver jubilee, she added, "It's about celebrating a tradition. to bring artists and audiences together in a shared experience of beauty. Art is evolving and being passed down to younger generations, offering fresh expressions as it transitions into newer hands. It represents the living continuity of dance."
The event also featured a felicitation ceremony, honouring 25 veterans for their contributions to the Capital's art scene....
