A life beyond the music

layback legend Asha Bhosle was born into the illustrious Mangeshkar family, daughter of actor and classical vocalist Deenanath Mangeshkar. She was just nine when her father passed away, forcing the family to move from Pune to Kolhapur and eventually Mumbai, where she and her sister Lata Mangeshkar began supporting the household through music.
At 16, she defied her family and eloped with Ganpatrao Bhosle, her sister's secretary. The marriage, however, was short-lived. She returned to her maternal home with two children and another on the way, separating in 1960 but retaining the surname that would later become synonymous with her identity.
Years later, she found love again with composer RD Burman. They married in 1980 despite opposition from both families. Their personal and professional partnership went on to shape some of Hindi cinema's most iconic songs, including Piya Tu Ab To Aaja, Yeh Mera Dil and Mera Kuch Samaan.
Her later years were marked by personal loss. She lost her daughter Varsha in 2012 and her eldest son Hemant in 2015. Her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle has since stepped into the spotlight, continuing the family's musical legacy. HTC...
