It defines the term as "the practice of pursuing an activity to the fullest or optimising a certain aspect of your life". Tracing its roots to words such as maximum and maximise, the term evolved from gaming's 'min-maxing', a strategy of optimising a character's strengths while offsetting weaknesses. Maxxing can stand alone or be combined with other words. For example, Looksmaxxing refers to optimising one's appearance, while tokenmaxxing means maximising AI use at work. Looksmaxxing dates back to at least 2015, with moneymaxxing, statusmaxxing and surgerymaxxing circulating by 2021.
