'i'd love to perform Lakshmi Puja after marriage'
India, Oct. 25 -- Vishakha Pandit
Adrija Roy, known for her work in Bengali film industry and Hindi television, shares her excitement about the Lakshmi Puja celebrated specially by the Bengali community today and reflects on preserving her cultural roots.
"It is very popular in Bengali culture, and almost every household celebrates it," the 27-year-old says. Recalling her childhood memories of the festival, the Anupamaa actor says it was a family affair, with her father and uncles performing separate pujas. "In our house, it is a very special day. Depending on the timings and who is ready first, we begin the puja in their room," she says.
Being away from this year, Roy prefers celebrating Lakshmi Puja at her family home. "I have always been told that Lakshmi is Lord Narayan's consort. My family was always disciplined about the rituals and I can't risk doing them incorrectly," she shares. However, Roy, who got engaged earlier this year, hopes to celebrate it in Mumbai with her fiance, businessman Vignesh Iyer. "Perhaps after marriage, I would like to celebrate Lakshmi Puja with Vignesh in our home."
As for festive food, Roy favourite includes nolen gur rosogollar payesh. "It is made with small rosogollas in milk, and I love it. Even in Mumbai, I order it, though I don't get the authentic version," she adds.
Her Bengali roots reflect in her festive wardrobe, especially her choice of heirloom jewellery. "I wear my grandmother's necklace and gold jewellery passed down through generations. We call it 'shabi' in Bengali, meaning something authentic and old," Roy says....
