India, April 10 -- Few characters in recent pop culture have sparked as much fascination and confusion as Homelander from the satirical superhero web series The Boys. Played with chilling precision by Antony Starr, the supe has become both meme machine and lightning rod for debate. But as the series returns for its fifth and final season, Antony has a clear message for those who idolise the character. Firmly shutting down the idea of Homelander as an anti-hero, or even a misunderstood hero, Antony, 50, says, "A few years ago, there was a very small minority of people who idolised the character. And they really got the wrong end of the stick. He is quite obviously the bad guy." In the upcoming season, Homelander tightens his grip on power, operating behind the scenes and influencing political leadership, a turn that prompted comparisons with real-world figures. Antony, however, steers clear of direct parallels. "People compare him to people in the real world, but it's not very helpful. You've got to build it from the inside out," he explains. The actor believes that part of the confusion around Homelander stems from the writing itself. "We've never tried to redeem him or make him sympathetic, but we have tried to explain who he is and why he is that way. And I think that there's a level of authenticity in that, and we've managed to strike a chord with people one way or another," the actor signs off....
