'Films should not only entertain, but also educate and sensitise'
India, July 12 -- The Supreme Court's order on the removal of stray dogs from the streets has been a topic of debate for over a year, with the Court upholding its order in May, rejecting the petitions filed against the move. Amid this comes Amit Rai's next directorial, Oh My Dog, a thriller centred around canines. He admits the timing is quite eventful to spread his film's message - harmonious coexistence.
"Films should not only entertain, but also educate and sensitise. We, as filmmakers, sometimes forget our moral responsibility to create perceptions and opinions," says Rai, who is a parent to four-year-old indie, Oscar. He adds, "Humans forget that we are one of the species in the animal kingdom, not the only one. And for our survival, we need to co-exist in harmony with other species and develop sensitivity towards them."
Meanwhile, his film's title has amused the audience due to its similarity to Rai's 2023 directorial, the Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi-starrer Oh My God 2. Mention that, and he says. "More than the pun, the title justifies the narrative."
The film reunites Rai with Tripathi, who has an extended cameo. "The kind of commitment, energy and gravitas he brings in his work is unparallelled. I am so thankful to him as his presence has brought immeasurable value to our film," the filmmaker ends....
