Youths sitting on tracks crushed under train
India, March 6 -- A day of festive joy turned into a horrific tragedy on Wednesday afternoon when a train struck and killed two young men near Jagatpura village while they were celebrating Holi on the railway tracks.
The victims have been identified as Jatinder, 20, a resident of Jagatpura, and Ankit, 21, who resided in Sector 82.
According to police officials, the incident occurred around3 pm. The duo was reportedly celebrating the festival of colours near the railway line passing through the village. In a fatal lapse of caution, they sat on the track, failing to notice an oncoming train.
The horror unfolded when Jatinder spotted the train at the last possible second. In an attempt to survive, he tried to jump clear of the tracks but was struck by the engine and flung a considerable distance into the nearby bushes. Ankit, who remained on the track, was crushed instantly. The train driver immediately informed the Government Railway Police (GRP). As news of the accident spread, a large crowd of local residents gathered at the site, where GRP personnel were already conducting recovery operations.
ASI Satpal Singh, the GRP in-charge, confirmed that both men sustained fatal injuries. "Following information from the train driver, our team reached the spot and took the bodies into custody," he stated.
The bodies were shifted to the civil hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. After completing the necessary legal formalities on Thursday, the authorities handed the remains over to the grieving families for the final rites....
