Woman loses Rs.1.5 lakh after downloading fake banking app
Panchkula, April 13 -- A 65-year-old woman from Sector 15, Panchkula, was duped of Rs.1.57 lakh by cyber fraudsters in a fake banking app scam. The victim, a retired executive HR from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), lodged a complaint with the cybercrime police.
According to the complaint, on the morning of April 2, she was trying to download the bank app on her smartphone. After facing difficulty, she searched for a customer care number online. Meanwhile, she received a call displaying the bank app logo.
The caller asked about her issue and sent a link on WhatsApp. After clicking the link and entering her bank account details, her mobile phone was hacked and became unresponsive.
Later in the evening, she received two messages indicating that Rs.65,000 and Rs.92,000 had been transferred from her account to another account. She immediately visited the bank, got her account blocked, and filed a complaint on the cyber portal.
Cyber crime police station has registered an FIR under Sections 316(2)(criminal breach of trust,) and 318(4)(cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway....
