Mohali, Aug. 30 -- A 45-year-old woman was killed and her husband critically injured after a manallegedly attacked them with a knife in Kurali on Friday afternoon. Police said the accused was opposed to his sister's decision to marry their son. The incident took place around 12.30 pm at the residence of Saroj Devi and her husband Om Nath Rai on Badali road. The accused has been identified as Sonu Kumar, 25. Devi suffered multiple stab injuries and died on the spot. Her husband was stabbed in the abdomen and remains critical at the civil hospital in Phase 6, Mohali. A case under Section 103 (murder) and 109 (attempt to murder) of the BharatiyaNyaya Sanhita has been registered at the Kurali city police station on the basis of Nath's statement. Mohali senior superintendent of police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans said the accused was arrested within four to five hours of the attack.
