Woman, lover held for killing man 2 years ago
Ahmedabad, July 31 -- A woman, her alleged lover and an associate were arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering her husband who had been missing for over two years and burying his body in a factory on the outskirts of Gujarat's Jamnagar, police said, adding that the remains have been exhumed.
According to police, the family had not been in contact with the victim, Jignesh Mavdiya, for two years as his wife repeatedly claimed he had gone to Australia for work. The victim's brother filed a complaint on July 26 saying that he suspected Jignesh was murdered by his wife, Prithvi Mavdiya, 27, in collusion with her lover, Nilesh Kachhatia, 36, police said.
Police said they questioned the two for two days, during which they allegedly confessed to murdering Jignesh in May 2024.
"Upon investigation, it was revealed the victim's wife had conspired with her lover to murder Jignesh by mixing cyanide into his alcohol.
They buried his body inside a factory.
The crime scene was reconstructed in presence of the accused before excavation was carried out on Thursday, which revealed skeletal remains believed to be those of Jignesh," said ASP Pratibha. Prithvi, Kachhatia, and Balveer Verma, 41, have been arrested, police said, adding, the remains have been handed over to forensic experts to ascertain identity of the deceased....
