Jalandhar, July 23 -- Wanted in a double murder case from June, a 21-year-old youth was arrested following a brief encounter on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday. Commissioner of police Satinder Singh said the accused, Shubham, was an accused in a June 13 murder case, where two youths were killed amid a deadly fight between two rival groups. Following the double murder, police registered a case and launched a probe. "On Wednesday, police received a tip-off about Shubham's movement and set up special check posts near Nakha Wala Bagh," said Singh. The accused was spotted riding a motorcycle and was signalled to stop. But he attempted to flee by turning around and fell. "He then pulled out a .32-bore pistol from his pocket and fired four rounds at the police party. In retaliation, police teams also opened fire at him. One bullet hit Shubham in the left leg. He was shifted to a hospital and remains under medical observation," the commissioner said. A fresh case of attempt to murder and Arms Act was registered against the accused. htc...
