Volvo-truck crash triggers pile-up; 1 dead, 5 injured
Karnal, June 7 -- A multi-vehicle collision on National Highway-44 near Taraori in Haryana's Karnal district left a tractor driver dead and five bus passengers injured on Friday night.
Police said the accident occurred around 11:45pm when a private Volvo bus headed from Delhi to Manali via Chandigarh rammed into a truck. The impact pushed the truck forward, causing it to crash into a tractor-trolley ahead of it.
Most passengers inside the packed tourist bus were asleep at the time of the collision. A passenger recounted waking up to the impact; they did not know exactly how it happened, only that several people around them were injured.
The injured were rushed to the Civil Hospital in Taraori for treatment.
Inspector Vipin Kumar, the station house officer of Taraori police station, said the tractor driver, a local farmer whose identity is still being ascertained, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The five bus passengers sustained minor wounds and were discharged after receiving first aid, he added. Assistant sub-inspector Subhash said an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash, after which a case will be registered....
