Chandigarh, June 30 -- Citing insufficient evidence, a local court on Monday discharged Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh and 14 other Congress leaders in a case registered after a protest outside the official residence of then Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in 2024. The case pertains to a Congress demonstration held in Chandigarh on February 20, 2024, against the Haryana government's alleged use of force against farmers protesting at the Punjab-Haryana border. The Congress workers raised slogans and several leaders were detained by the police. Following this, Chandigarh Police registered an FIR against Pargat and 14 other leaders for obstructing public servants in the discharge of their duties and assault. While hearing the matter, the court observed that the prosecution had failed to place sufficient material on record to establish a prima facie case against the accused. Holding that no ground existed to proceed with the trial, the court discharged all 15 accused.HTC...
