Two days after Panchkula double murder, 3 arrested
Panchkula, July 7 -- Two days after a man allegedly stabbed his brother-in-law to death and was subsequently murdered by the former's friends, police have arrested three persons in the case.
The accused have been identified as Vipin, Prem Chand and Sukhpreet, all aged between 23 and 25, and residents of Abhaypur village. According to the police, they had killed Arjun, 23, a resident of Kharak Mangoli village, in retaliation to the murder of their friend, Sanjeet, 20, the brother of Arjun's wife.
Vipin works in a factory, Chand is a driver and Sukhpreet is a labourer. The trio has been sent to two-day police custody.
According to the police, the double murder stemmed from a long-standing rivalry after Arjun married Sanjeet's sister against the family's wishes two years ago.
On Friday, Arjun had gone to attend the naming ceremony of Sanjeet's newborn, where the duo allegedly got into a heated argument. After leaving the venue, Arjun allegedly attacked Sanjeet with a sharp-edged weapon near the Sector 19 underpass, killing him.
Soon after, Sanjeet's associates allegedly tracked down Arjun near the underpass and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, killing him on the spot. The bodies of both men were recovered from separate locations near the underpass.
Two separate FIRs were registered. The first one, on the complaint of Arjun's sister Khushi, names Sanjeet and his associates under Sections 103(1) (murder), 190 (unlawful assembly, 191(3) (rioting) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The second, lodged on the complaint of Sanjeet's father, Vijaypal, names Arjun under Section 103(1) of the BNS.
Police said the accused have been taken on remand to recover the weapons, motorcycle and scooter used during the crime. They added that more people are suspected to have been involved in Arjun's killing and raids are on to nab them....
