Amritsar, Aug. 14 -- The Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled two major cross-border drug and illegal arms networks with the arrest of five individuals. A total of seven illegal pistols and 2.030 kg heroin were recovered from the accused's possession, said Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Those arrested have been identified as Pargat Singh, 30, and Janbar Singh, 20, both from Dall village in Tarn Taran; Balwinder Singh, 30, of Doake village in Amritsar Rural; Amandeep Singh, 37, of Sarwarpura in Amritsar; and Balwinder Singh, 42, of Kot Atma Ram in Amritsar. The recovered weapons include four .30-bore China-made and three 9MM Austria-made pistols. Apart from this, police teams also impounded their two motorcycles being used for criminal activities. DGP Yadav said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly in contact with foreign-based smugglers and procuring illegal weapons for further supply in Amritsar and Tarn Taran. He said further investigation was underway to uncover the entire supply network. Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Harmanbir Singh Gill said acting on reliable intelligence, police first arrested Pargat, Janbar and Balwinder, recovering five illegal pistols from their possession. Based on their disclosures, police recovered two more pistols from another location. In another operation, the CP said acting on specific intelligence, police intercepted accused Amandeep and Balwinder. During search, 2.03 kg heroin was recovered from them. He said more arrests and recoveries were likely in coming days as the investigation progressed. Two separate FIRs under the Arms Act and NDPS Act have been registered at the Islamabad and Sultanwind police stations, respectively....
