AGARTALA, July 21 -- Tripura director general of police Anurag Dhyankar was found hanging in the washroom of his official chamber at the police headquarters on Monday, chief minister Manik Saha said. According to secretary of health and family welfare department Kiran Gitte, the 1994-batch IPS officer was "found at his office chamber and immediately was brought to the Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) hospital in Agartala". Pradip Bhaumik, a senior doctor at GBP hospital, said, "When he was brought to the hospital around 12 pm, he had no pulse, blood pressure. We have given him CPR but he didn't revive. We declared him dead at 12.48 pm". He added: "We don't know anything about the cause of the death. Body will be sent for post-mortem examination." Condoling the death in a post on Facebook, the CM said: "I am deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic demise of Anurag, IPS, Director General of Police, Tripura, who was found hanging in the washroom of his official chamber today." Saha added that he, along with other top officials, visited the police headquarters after getting the news. Forensic director Dr HK Pratihari, who visited the incident site, said: "There will be marks, protruding tongue, salivation, if this is a case of suicide. We can ascertain only after receiving the post mortem report." The 60-year-old officer was due to retire in 11 months. Permanent DGPs have a fixed service tenure of at least two years, irrespective of their age. Dhyankar was appointed the state police chief last year.
