Toor accorded warm welcome after 3rd consecutive Asian Games medal
Chandigarh, Oct. 3 -- Punjab Police DSP and Olympian Tejinderpal Singh Toor was accorded a warm welcome at Punjabi University on Thursday after returning to Patiala with his third consecutive Asian Games medal in shot put.
The welcome ceremony, led by MLA Gurlal Ghanour, was attended by a large number of sportspersons, youngsters and residents who felicitated Toor for bringing laurels to Patiala, Punjab and the country.
Toor, who had won gold medals at the previous two Asian Games, secured silver this time. He thanked chief minister Bhagwant Mann and the Punjab government for supporting sportspersons and providing assistance for training and international competitions.
"To win gold this time was my aim, but injuries affected my performance. With the support of my family, department and the government, I will work harder to win gold at upcoming international events," said Toor.
He said initiatives to improve sports infrastructure and provide financial and training support had boosted athletes' morale.
Ghanour described Toor's achievement as an inspiration for young sportspersons and said Punjab's efforts to develop village sports grounds were creating greater opportunities for budding athletes.
District officials, sports administrators, coaches, athletes and Toor's family members were also present at the felicitation ceremony....
