Techie's husband held in homestay death case: Cops
Dehradun, July 12 -- The husband of a 27-year-old IT professional from Visakhapatnam who was found dead at a Mussoorie homestay on June 15 was arrested in New Delhi on Saturday, a day after a city sessions court rejected his application for anticipatory bail in the case.
Circle officer Mussoorie Jagdish Pant confirmed the development.
The accused, Somayajulu Sricharan and his wife P Radha Gayatri checked into Kiana Homestay on the Mussoorie-Dhanaulti road late on June 14.
Gayatri was found dead inside her room at the homestay the next morning.
During preliminary questioning, Somayajulu told investigators that the couple had consumed alcohol before going to sleep in a room named "Bliss" at around 3.30 am. He claimed that when he woke up later in the morning, he found blood coming from his wife's nose and noticed signs that she had urinated.
Officers said the woman was found lying naked on the floor of the room. Blood stains were found on the bedsheet, while two empty liquor bottles and food items were recovered from the scene.
The couple got married on November 8, 2025, and both worked in the information technology sector. While the husband was employed in Pune, the woman worked in Gurugram, police said.
The postmortem examination of the woman was conducted on June 15, but it failed to establish the exact cause of death. Police said viscera samples were preserved and sent for forensic and toxicological analysis.
A first information report (FIR) against Somyajulu was registered at Mussoorie police station under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita on June 20, based on a complaint by Gayatri's father.
On Friday, the court of Sessions Judge in Dehradun Harish Kumar Goel junked the accused's plea for pre-arrest bail , observing that the allegations were serious.
Appearing for the accused, Advocate Vivek Gupta argued that he was falsely implicated in the case. He cited the delay in filing of the complaint, and also argued that she died of natural causes, citing the inconclusive nature of the post-mortem report.
District Government Counsel (Criminal) GP Raturi argued that the accused was not cooperating with investigators. He argued that Gayatri was subject to constant alleged harassment, adding that the accused allegedly monitored her constantly through video calls and also placed a GPS tracker in her bag.
After hearing both sides, the court noted that it was established that the couple stayed at Hotel Kiana in Mussoorie on June 14, and shared a room on the night of the incident.
The court observed that granting anticipatory bail at this stage could adversely affect the probe.
Earlier, the district administration had ordered a magisterial inquiry in the case....
