New Delhi, Sept. 6 -- President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday described teachers as "frontline nation-builders", saying their role extends beyond imparting knowledge to nurturing curiosity, character, confidence and sensitivity among students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. "Watching films focused on the contributions and achievements of the award winners has further strengthened my belief that dedicated teachers are frontline nation-builders," she said, addressing the presentation of the National Teachers Awards at Vigyan Bhawan. Murmu said a society that respects teachers is a progressive society and recalled her own experience as a teacher and student. She also congratulated this year's National Teachers' Awards recipients. She cited Rabindranath Tagore's Shantiniketan and Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das's "Van Vidyalaya" or open-air school as examples of the belief that children develop naturally in the lap of nature.
