Tarn Taran youth shot dead for marrying maternal cousin
Tarn Taran, Oct. 6 -- Angered by his marriage to his maternal uncle's daughter, the family members of the woman allegedly shot dead a youth at his house in Tarn Taran's Panjwar village on Sunday evening and seriously injured his father.
The victim has been identified as Amritpal Singh, while his father, Kashmir Singh, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Amritsar.
According to police, Amritpal had married his maternal cousin a few months ago, a relationship that was opposed by her family.
Police said on Sunday evening, some family members of the woman, accompanied by other persons, allegedly reached Amritpal's house and opened fire at him and his father. Both sustained serious bullet injuries. The father-son duo was rushed to a hospital, but Amritpal succumbed to his injuries while being taken there. Kashmir was later shifted to a private hospital in Amritsar.
A police team from Chabhal station reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and initiated an investigation.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sukhbir Singh said a case would be registered on the basis of Kashmir's statement and the accused would be arrested soon....
