Suvendu picks Bhabanipur over nandigram assembly seat
Kolkata, May 14 -- West Bengal chief minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday took oath at the state legislative assembly as the lawmaker from Kolkata's Bhabanipur, announcing that he will vacate his traditional bastion of Nandigram in East Midnapore district, which he won for the third consecutive time.
"I had to follow my party's decision. Someone else willbe elected from Nandigram, but I promise that in the next five years I will not let the peopleof Nandigram feel even once that I am not their MLA. All promises I made during the campaign will be kept," Adhikari said.
Adhikari thanked voters after the BJP won 207 of Bengal's 294 seats against the Trinamool Congress's (TMC) 80 seats. He said he would visit Bhabanipur on Wednesday evening.
Adhikari defeated TMC chief Mamata Banerjee in the April 29 polls by more than 15,000 votes from Bhabanipur. In the 2021 polls, too, Adhikari defeated Banerjee at the Nandigram seat by around 2,000 votes, forcing her to win a bypoll at her Bhabanipur seat to continue as CM.htc...
