Sudhir Mishra, Swanand Kirkire team up after 18 years
India, May 3 -- After giving iconic tracks like Bavra Mann and Monta Re, lyricist-music composer Swanand Kirkire has joined forces with filmmaker Sudhir Mishra after 18 years for his upcoming political drama series Summer of '77.
Shedding light on the reunion, Kirkire says, "Working with Sudhir has always been incredibly enriching because he approaches storytelling with such honesty and depth. This is going to be the fifth time I collaborated with Sudhir after Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi (2003) and Khoya Khoya Chand (2007)."
For the series, which is set against the backdrop of the 1975-1977 Emergency in India, Kirkire has composed six songs and voiced three of them. For him, singing for a series set in that era comes with a sense of responsibility. "You're trying to capture the spirit of a generation that was questioning authority, dreaming of change, and finding its voice. The songs had to feel rooted in that time, yet resonate with today's audience. That balance was both challenging and deeply fulfilling," he signs off....
