CHANDIGARH, Sept. 3 -- Haryana government is planning to add 505 additional beds in Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College and Hospital (KCGMCH) in Karnal under the phase-II expansion plan that chief minister Nayab Singh Saini discussed here on Wednesday, an official spokesperson said. The expansion of the KCGMCH was discussed in the state finance committee meeting that the chief minister chaired. Health minister Arti Singh Rao was also present in this meeting. "Under phase-2, the medical facilities and capacity of the hospital will be expanded substantially, enabling people from Karnal and adjoining areas to access better specialised and super-speciality healthcare services," the spokesperson said, adding that some construction works under phase-2 have already started. "Haryana Police Housing Corporation (HPHC) has started construction of additional hostels and residential accommodation at a cost of Rs.170 crore. The expansion work of the hospital complex under phase-2 will also be taken up shortly." A proposal of Rs.405 crore has been placed for expansion of the hospital complex under phase-2. The proposed infrastructure will include a trauma centre, burn unit and burn ward, ICU, ICCU, general medicine, nephrology, neuro-surgery and psychiatry facilities.
