Speeding car on wrong side of road kills biker in Kharar
Mohali, Aug. 14 -- A 22-year-old man was killed after a speeding car on the wrong side of the road rammed into his motorcycle near the Kharar municipal office in the early hours of Tuesday, making it the third fatal road mishap reported in Mohali district this week.
The deceased, Amritpal Singh, was travelling with his friend Arjun Singh on a Jawa motorcycle (PB 65BD 6216) after returning from Hansali Sahib via Morinda Road. His brother, Gurjeet Singh, was following them on another motorcycle.
According to Gurjeet's statement to police, the two motorcycles reached the slip road near Sidhu Car Wash, close to Modern Valley and the MC office, around 3.22am on Tuesday. A speeding car came from the opposite direction while driving on the wrong side of the road and hit Amritpal's motorcycle.
The impact threw Amritpal into a metal road railing and Arjun into the grass along the roadside. The vehicle's driver fled the spot as people gathered there.
Passersby took Amritpal to the Kharar civil hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His friend sustained minor injuries in the mishap.
Police later shifted Amritpal's body to the civil hospital in Phase 6, Mohali, as the Kharar hospital did not have space in its mortuary.
A case has been registered against the unidentified driver under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving), 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 324(4) (mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. No arrest has been made so far.htc...
