SIR exercise: People's support sought as enumeration drive begins on June 15
Chandigarh, June 12 -- With the enumeration phase under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the photo electoral roll set to be conducted in Chandigarh from June 15 to July 14, chief electoral officer (CEO) Prerna Puri on Thursday urged people, especially resident welfare associations, educational institutions and other stakeholders, to actively participate in the exercise to ensure an error-free electoral roll.
Addressing a press conference, Puri said the revision was being conducted with reference to July 1, 2026, as per the directives of the Election Commission of India. Chandigarh has 5,16,427 registered electors and all enumeration forms have been printed and are ready for distribution, she said.
The CEO said booth-level officers (BLOs) will carry out door-to-door visits to distribute and collect enumeration forms. Each elector will be provided two copies of the form, along with assistance in filling them if required. In cases where houses are found locked, BLOs will leave the forms and make at least three follow-up visits on different dates.
Electors can submit the filled forms either to their respective BLOs or online through the ECINet mobile application and the Voters' Service Portal.
Online submissions will be verified by BLOs.
Puri urged voters to provide mapping details from the previous SIR conducted in 2002-03. If such details are unavailable, information related to parents or grandparents listed in earlier revisions, including the recent SIR conducted in 2025-26 in select states and UTs, may be furnished. She clarified that lack of mapping details will not result in exclusion from the draft electoral roll. Eligible residents whose names are not included in the electoral roll can apply using Form-6 along with the prescribed declaration. Such applications will be processed after the publication of the draft roll during the claims and objections period.
The CEO also called upon recognised political parties and their booth-level agents (BLAs) to assist voters and provide inputs regarding unregistered, deceased, shifted or duplicate electors.
For assistance, voters can contact their BLOs, use the "Book a Call" feature on ECINet, or dial the voter helpline number 1950....
